Insulin Resistance
                                   That's a scary term, huh?

Insulin Resistance in simple terms means
that  your body makes insulin but does not
                                    know how to use it.

The best way to describe our endocrine
system is to compare it to a spider web.
Tiny, fragile threads that are so carefully and
precisely woven together to form one intricate design
precariously balanced between two solid objects, and can be
easily destroyed by just one strong wind.  If just one of those
threads is out of place or weakened, then the integrity of the
entire web is compromised and can be destroyed by something
as simple as a strong wind, rendering it useless and incapable of
preforming it's primary functions.

Our endocrine system is very much the same way.  If one of our
hormones (and insulin is a hormone) is out of place, then it
creates a chain reaction that sends many of our other hormones
out of whack, too.

Too much insulin can cause and worsen some of the symptoms
of PCOS like weight gain, acne, and hirstuism.  Insulin
Resistance, or IR, can also lead to more serious health risks
such as Type II Diabetes so it is important to address and treat it.

IR can be treated with diet and exercise but may also need to be
assisted with medications such as Glucophage or Metformin or
other insulin sensitizing drugs.

Talk to your doctor.  Ask to be tested for insulin resistance and
make a plan of attack.  Treating Insulin Resistance can help ease
some of the other symptoms.
