Big words can sometimes have
simple meanings. Amenorrhea is a
big, fancy word for lack of
menstrual periods. Primary
Amenorrhea is classified when a
woman of childbearing age has
never experienced menstrual
bleeding. Secondary Amenorrhea
(more common in women with
PCOS) is when you have had a
period but they are now irregular,
infrequent or absent all together.
PCOS can, and often, does cause Amenorrhea, but there are
several treatment options for this particular symptom including
birth control pills, progesterone withdrawal bleeding and other
hormone therapies. You and your doctor will have decide
which one is right for you
Amenorrhea can be dangerous. If the endometrial lining
grows too thick for too long without shedding (menstruation)
then the risk or uterine cancer can increase. Therefore, it is
important to treat this particular symptom.
