Just the word "acne" can make your skin crawl.
Acne is supposed to be for adolescent boys,
right? But, If you are a woman with PCOS,
chances are that you seem to be fighting a never
ending battle against the spots.
No matter what you do, what you eat, or how
expensive your skin care products get, you can't
seem to get rid of them.
That's the problem. It really has nothing to do
with skin care or diet. While those two things
can and will affect the appearance of zits and
blemishes, the bottom line is we are really
fighting our hormones.
Women with PCOS have an excess of
androgens or male hormones (not unlike
adolescent boys) which helps to explain the
explosions that occur on not only our faces but
our chests, backs, and other odd places for zits.
Talk to your doctor about prescritption acne
treatments (they might help) but most women
with PCOS have found that as they get their
other symptoms, especially insulin resistance,
under control that their acne also improves.
Remember you are fighting not just acne, but a
whole army of symptoms that are working
together to make your life seem miserable.
